Answers

Jerry Lee

There is considerable confusion on which dog played the main character. Despite the credits showing the dog “Jerry Lee was played by himself” the German Shepherd Dog was probably Koton.

If this is the case, in real life he was in fact a fully trained police dog serving as a K9 officer with Kansas City Police Department Sadly on the 18th of November 1991 he was killed in the line of duty whilst attempting to apprehend a suspect in the murder of a police officer.

Other sources suggest that the dog was called Rando. One of the reasons for the confusion may be that several canines were considered for the role and a number were hired as understudies as is normal in movies where animals are used. The doubt is enhanced by the fact that probably more than one dog was used during filming.
